National Independent Retailer Month: Graziano Bros.

July is National Independent Retailer Month! I am lucky to work with some incredible small businesses that fall into or around that category. So I’m going to share with you some of my favorites this month.

First up: Graziano Brothers!

This Italian girl couldn’t survive without her regular trips to Graziano Bros. It’s been a lifelong tradition. I couldn’t make any of my Italian food without their delicious ingredients. Every trip has a few required purchases: pepperoni (from the case, not the cooler), parmesan and romano cheeses, oh and aged provolone, and of course Italian Sausage. There’s usually also a stop to say his to Frances as well. We go once a month, at minimum.

Fun Fact: Before enlisting in the US Army and serving in World War II my Grandpa Giudicessi worked at Graziano Bros. I actually have a copy of his draft card that listed his job there and a reference letter that his boss wrote for him.

Shopping at Graziano Bros. is a family tradition that at my best estimate covers 6 generations, so their entire 110 year history. If you live in Iowa you’ve probably found their Italian Sausage at your local Hy-Vee or Fareway and know it’s delicious. If you’re in Des Moines, make sure to take a trip to Little Italy to check out this gem!
